A local staff committee, what for ?

The Staff Committee is an elected committee, which represents all EP officials and other servants at all places of work vis-à-vis the administration.

This committee ensures that staff rules (e.g., health and safety at work, social actions, catering, childcare, etc.) are fully respected. It is therefore important that everyone takes the utmost care in choosing their representatives on this committee.

U4U works to improve the functioning of staff representation.

On the basis of the work done, if you, voters, strengthen our representativeness, we are committed to improving the functioning of staff representation with:

â–ª A real social dialogue that requires the negotiation of a new framework agreement between the trade unions and the Administration.

â–ª The promotion of a new, more collaborative practice between the different trade union organizations, whether they are in the majority or the minority.

Thus, all trade union organisations would work fairly within the Staff Committee, the Joint Committees and the delegations. It is as much within the joint committees as the delegations that questions of importance for working life are discussed, such as: promotions, childcare facilities, equal opportunities, the sickness fund, safety and health at work, the professional characteristics of certain bodies of professional life, third parties etc.

Let us ensure that at each of these levels of representation we reflect the diverse realities and preferences of all staff.

That would be a real change. The practice of the current trade union majority in the Staff Committee is quite different. It has at its disposal all the resources granted to the trade unions. In the same way, this lack of collaboration is imposed by the lack of sharing of places in the various joint committees and the unequal allocation of the most politically sensitive areas.

With your trust to, U4U is committed to:

â–ª Giving meaning to elections, reflecting your choice at all levels of staff representation!

â–ª Working immediately towards proportional and equitable distribution in all joint committees and delegations.

â–ª Reporting, as a matter of transparency, on the application of collaborative practice.

We ask all the unions present at the elections of the Staff Committee to commit themselves to this principle or, failing that, to express their positions now on the repair of places on the joint committees and delegations so that the staff can vote in full knowledge of the facts.
